Thomas "Thos" Waddelow (American, 1921–2017) was a prolific California regionalist and folk artist, best known for his nostalgic landscapes, coastal scenes, and miniature architectural studies. Based in Venice, California, Waddelow was a highly recognizable fixture at the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts, where he exhibited extensively for over thirty years. His work captures the quiet dignity of mid-20th-century rural life, often functioning as "memory paintings" that focus on vanishing agricultural structures, barns, windmills, and maritime subjects. Waddelow almost exclusively executed his works in oil or acrylic on rigid supports, such as masonite, wood panels, or artist board. He frequently crafted his own period-appropriate frames, making his standard cabinet and elongated panoramic formats highly distinct. Today, his works maintain a stable and localized secondary market presence. They are frequently handled by West Coast regional auction houses like John Moran Auctioneers and Hughes Auctions, where they appeal to collectors seeking accessible, original California folk art.
